Healthcare Team

Dr. Ben Quackenbush

I grew up on Manitoulin Island. I completed my medical training at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.  I knew it was important for women from Manitoulin to have the option to deliver their babies close to home. I made sure to incorporate obstetrical medicine into my training so that Manitoulin women could have safe deliveries on the Island for years to come. I moved to Manitoulin after graduating medical school in 2011 and live in Little Current with my wife, Sarah, and our three children.

Emma Witkowski, Registered Midwife

I was born and raised in Markdale, ON, and moved to Manitoulin in October 2023. I have loved every minute of living here and am settled just outside Mindemoya. I did my undergrad at University of Toronto and afterwards graduated from the Midwifery Education Program at McMaster University. I first practiced in Milverton, ON, where I enjoyed attending lots of home and hospital deliveries. Now I'm happy to jump into the already well-established, safe, and comfortable obstetrics unit here at the Manitoulin Health Centre. When I'm not in clinic or catching babies, you'll see me hiking, writing, or trying to get the deer away from my herb garden.

Katelyn Miller, Physician Assistant

Originally from Bradford Ontario, I moved to Manitoulin island in 2015, after graduating from the Physician Assistant Education Program at McMaster University. I began working alongside the Little Current physicians in family and emergency medicine and became more involved with prenatal care during the pandemic. I feel honoured to be able to provide care during the life changing transition of pregnancy through to the postpartum stage. I am passionate about forming strong and trusting relationships with our patients, allowing them to feel supported and empowered. I’m grateful to be living in Kagawong with my husband, Jordan and our 3 boys.
